MORE PERFECT UNION by Tom Lineaweaver The first thing the Preamble to the Constitution says its purpose is, "to form a more perfect union." constitutioncenter.org/interactive-constitution/preamble
This came to mind when I heard a rash of people after the AHCA failed say that we don't need a perfect bill. The question is, what do they mean? Is it no longer important to "form a more perfect union"? Does it mean we don't need a Constitutional bill?
If we are a more perfect union based on the Constitution, why shouldn't we expect perfect bills from Congress? Anything else would indicate their willingness to dismantle our Constitutional more perfect union.
I guess a historical perspective of how this more perfect union was established. You can learn this in a documentary called "Founding Brothers: A More Perfect Union."Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Obviously establishing a more perfect union was easier said than done. And, perhaps we have yet to arrive. But when I hear politicians suggest that less than Constitutional perfection in legislation is acceptable tells me that to them striving for a more perfect union is not a goal worth striving for. And that is furtherest from the truth. Even though we will never be a more perfect union, striving for it bears it's own rewards. May we never stop striving to be a more perfect union.
