LATE WINTER EARLY SPRING FORECAST FOR PENNSYLVANIA
by Tom Lineaweaver
by Tom Lineaweaver
My inner voice has been saying this for sometime, that Pennsylvania will have a colder than normal March, at least in the second half of the month, and today I saw something on Weather World that makes me believe that is indeed possible.
I'm sure you remember the term "Polar Vortex." Well we have not had to contend with it for this entire winter. Well now there is an indication the Polar Vortex is beginning to move South. Weather World didn't forecast anything for Pennsylvania. But they did have a "Sure Bets" segment, and the Away Pick was for Alaska turning much colder than it had been because of the Polar Vortex moving South.
If the Polar Vortex does move into Canada, it will be much colder for the Northern part of the United States as well.
There were quite a few times this winter where Pennsylvania was getting a flow from the Northwest. But what was happening in the Northwest. They were also having an unusual warm winter. 9 above 0 may not seem too warm to you. But for Northern Alaska, that's balmy. Even the Polar bears were out sun bathing. And yes, I have heard reports of glacial melting. Climate change people had a field day with that for a while. But, the Polar Vortex was not inactive. It was just in a different place. Take a look at this.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_2017_European_cold_wave
And if you check it out, you will find Russia had a very cold and snowy Winter. Where did winter go? To Russia. And according to Accu-Weather, Russia will have a wintry Spring... www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/2017-asia-spring-forecast-winter-to-linger-from-russia-to-turkey-drought-may-build-in-southern-india/70000853
What was that movie, "From Russia With Snow"?
What if that Polar Vortex which has been bothering the Northern part of the Eastern Hemisphere all Winter comes to our side of the globe? That would mean colder and possibly snowier. And that's my forecast for Pennsylvania. 2nd half of March into the first half April will be colder and snowier than normal.
If this Polar Vortex hangs around, we could see colder than normal temperatures into June. Hopefully we won't need the air conditioners till the dog days of Summer.
