(UPDATE: It wasn't Facebook, it was my Browser. I got rid of it. Now I'm stuck with Internet Explorer.)
Within the last hour (12:15 AM / 1-25-17) I tried to get on Facebook. They won't leave me on. When I try I go to a screen that has this message...
Hi Tom, we're continuously working to keep your account secure. We've noticed that this device may be infected with malicious software. To continue to use Facebook, you can either use other devices or clean this device by downloading the scanner provided by Facebook and ESET.
I press "Clean this device" then it goes to a screen that says....
Malicious software tries to steal personal information and often spreads spam on Facebook through links or downloads.
- How did malicious software get on my computer?
- Why should I clean malicious software?
- How can I keep my account secure?
I press "continue" then it goes to a screen that says this...
Please download the recommended scanner from Facebook and ESET to clean your infected device.
By clicking Download, you agree that Facebook and ESET can access your device in order to collect, analyze and remove files that may be malicious, and use and share the collected data to improve security on and off Facebook.
Do I understand correctly that Facebook wants access to the files on my computer? And, would you give access to your computer to Facebook?
I do regular maintenance through Microsoft. And I clean my browser often. As far as I know there is nothing malicious on my computer. My PC is being monitored and protected by Microsoft Security Essentials. It tells me my computer is fine.
To show I am not lying, here is a screen shot of the first screen...
Folks, I am not going to give Facebook access to the files. So, I guess I'm done with Facebook. If you are on Facebook, I would appreciate if you shared this on Facebook. Perhaps my friends will see and they can contact me here at Our Lifebook.
Let me tell you, this hurts. I have become rather close to some of my Facebook friends. Some from the Philippines that have really stirred my heart. But not just there. I hope they find out that I didn't abandon them, and that it is Facebook that is preventing me from being there for them. Some are very lonely and needy, and for some reason they find comfort in our chats. I certainly hope they find what they need elsewhere.
Tell me, what does Mark Zuckerberg care? He is the worst control freak I have ever known. He doesn't care who he hurts. And I am hoping someday he will face the wrath of God.
Please spread the word.
Thanks.
Tom
