JET STREAM WEATHER - December 9, 2016 Well, my bold prediction I made yesterday does not appear to be materializing. The reason is the Jet Stream flattened out, so there will be no Southern development. Systems will just basically go West to East. And it doesn't appear the Gulf will be supplying any moisture. So we have a system come through today with a little snow. Temps will be above 32, so roadways will be wet. Then on the weekend, another system will come through and this time with a little more punch. The entire State will receive anywhere from a coating to as much as 6 inches of snow. This system will have a longer duration. It will start Saturday night and continue through Monday.
When it clears out, Tuesday will be a beautiful day. Then comes Wednesday. More on that later.
For now, enjoy the weather, it's all we have.

JET STREAM WEATHER - December 10, 2016 The Jet Stream map shows a basic West to East flow, which doesn't bode well for extremely cold weather. Nor does it bode well for a lot of warmth. The cold air is up to the North, while the warm air is down to the South. So it will be cool in the overnight hours, warming up in the daytime. Any precipitation that falls overnight will likely be of the frozen variety. Changing to rain during the day. ***** Looking at the weather map doesn't show a whole lot of organization till you get to the Pacific Northwest. For the most part High Pressure is in control of our weather, which doesn't bode well for a lot of precipitation.
The weather in the Northwest will be impacting our weather in pieces. The first piece currently in Southern South Dakota, Northern Nebraska. That will effect the Mid Atlantic Sunday into Monday. Since the Precipitation will like fall in the Mid Atlantic, Northern sections, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, will start as snow, but by Monday afternoon change to rain in most areas.
Then the Low in Idaho will get to the Mid Atlantic about Tuesday or Wednesday. Then another one next weekend. Some have talked about High Pressure to the North and East of Pennsylvania will be cut off by the current flow of the Jet Stream. So, this Weekend's storm will start as snow Pennsylvania and New Jersey and North. While mainly rain, or perhaps freezing rain to start with in Southern areas of the Mid Atlantic. The North further you go, the more snow there will be, to the South mostly rain.
I really don't see this weekend as a major snow event for most of the Mid Atlantic. However, Monday morning will likely be slick on the roadways either way.
Could this develop into a larger and stronger storm? Yes. Could more cold air come into the system? Yes. That means this could be a major snow event. But I do not see that happen. But, the potential is there.
Check out Jet Stream Today on Sunday, and we should know more.

JET STREAM WEATHER - December 12, 2016 Looking at the Jet Stream forecast for tomorrow, we see it is still rather much flowing from West to East, with just a bit of a dip in the middle of the Country. Last time I saw a dip like this, in fact it was more of a dip, I thought a major storm would develop and become a classic Nor'easter. Well, that did not happen. I will try not to make the same mistake.
The Jet Stream shows we in Pennsylvania are getting our weather from the Southwest on Tuesday. Looking at today's weather map, we see High Pressure. That will be coming over Pennsylvania and give us a gorgeous Tuesday. Warmer temperatures, and mostly sunny skies.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, Low Pressure will be moving in to give us some rain. This will be preceding a Cold Front that will make Thursday and Friday rather cold. Question I have, how far will the dip in the Jet Stream go. That will determine this weekend's weather.
Have a splendid Tuesday folks.

JET STREAM WEATHER - December 16, 2016 by Tom Lineaweaver Looking at today's Jet Stream and Weather, I can tell you we will have another windy day. Mid Atlantic wind will be from the Northwest today. Sustained winds 10-20 miles per hour, gusting up to 50 mph.
Now let's see if I can tell you something you don't know, something the experts aren't telling you. They are saying the temps on Saturday will reach into the 50s, and possibly 60 in Philly, and points South, the Carolinas could actually reach 70. But, where it coming from?
There is ridge developing in the middle of the Country, when that moves East tomorrow, it will bring warmer air.
In the meantime, the Lake Effect snow machine will be cranked up, yet again. Places North and West of I-81 could get into some snow squalls and showers that will out down a coating to an inch of snow. Of course, more the closer to the Lakes you are.
This evening we see a warm front approaching from the Southwest with a few Low Pressure areas. With the ridge, we could see Gulf moisture with this system. However, the cold air at the surface will not go away to quick.
So, here is my forecast for Friday and Saturday. Snow squalls from the Lake effect, in New York and Pennsylvania, during the day. Temps in the teens North, to 20s South.
From the system coming from the Southwest, overnight Friday we will see snow into the morning hours on Saturday. A general amount of 3-6 inches. More to the North, less to the South. Eventually it will change over to all rain. But with warm air over the cold air, this is a recipe for icing. Sleet and Freezing Rain. I believe the change over will happen in Maryland and Delaware first. This leads me to believe those States will experience a significant icing event. Same will be true for the Southern Counties of Pennsylvania. This could cause downed power lines, and widespread loss of power. Make sure you have batteries for your flashlights.
Roadways will likely be very icy until the temps rise to the 50s and 60s through the region. How much ice we get will be based on the timing of the system.
I believe North of I-76, the PA turnpike, it will be mostly a snow event, with sleet and freezing rain mixed in before changing to all rain just before the system moves East and out to Sea, by Saturday Evening. By 7 PM it should all be over. Of course, that's part one of the weekend weather.
Part two happens Saturday night into Sunday, which will be an all rain event.
You can see the maps here: ourlifebook.freeforums.net/post/388 You'll see the system is a complicated system, and you will likely hear 10 different forecasts. But, there is one thing for certain. The weather will give us a mess. The facts are the same, but interpretations of those facts will vary. Either way, you should be prepared for the worst.

Wow, you can tell where the warm and cold air is. Cold air and snow to one half of the country and warm rain the other half.
