!!! WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY !!!
by Tom Lineaweaver
by Tom Lineaweaver
First, this is not from the National Weather Service, or Accu Weather, etc. It is coming from what I see in the forecast. Also, an advisory is saying that the potential exists for the following conditions, and since Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, I thought it important to issue this advisory so you might alter your plans if you need to.
There is a system approaching Pennsylvania from the West, which will have some rain along with it. Earlier the thinking was the precipitation would not start till late in the day on Thanksgiving. That is no longer the case. The rain is now forecast to begin Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Temperatures are forecast to be below 32 F, which means there could be some freezing rain, especially in the valleys of Southeastern PA where cold air will likely be trapped. So any rain will likely freeze on contact. The cold air will probably be trapped well into Thanksgiving morning.
North of I-80, it could be cold enough to have a mixed bag of precipitation with snow and sleet mixed in with the rain in the morning hours. Also, with precipitation starting early temperatures will struggle to rise. But, I believe temps will rise above 32 throughout the State by 2 or 3 in the afternoon. The maximum temps will reach the lower 40s in Northwest Pennsylvania, to 50 in Philadelphia.
Therefore, if you are planning to get started to grandma's house at 6 AM, please drive carefully. We will keep an eye on this. We could see Winter Weather Warnings sometime on Wednesday. Stay tuned to your favorite Weather Radio, or TV stations for further updates. Of course, keep checking here. As soon as there is something more definite it will be posted.
Here is what Bobby Martrich says at EPAWA...
Keep it mind, it doesn't take much freezing rain to make the roads slippery.
