OLD AGE

Since May 12th of this year I have been 60 years old. I am officially a senior citizen.
The hardest thing about getting old is losing people I grew up with, listening to their music, watching on TV, or being around them in my own. There are so many it's hard to count them. Recently I learned that one of my favorite uncles had past away. And I couldn't get to the viewing or funeral. I did call my cousin though to tell him my thoughts are with him. I get emotional when someone like that passes on. In recent years, I have been very emotional. We lost Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Buck Owens.
William Conrad, who played Cannon, was one of my favorite actors. And, as I mentioned in the Happy Goodman topic, they're gone too.
These are people when we are young we expect them to be there forever. Then their gone.
Something else that's hurtful is to see how life has changed. When I was younger, people respected one another. Younger people respected older people. Older people while seeming harsh at the time, being older has showed me how they brought us up right. I don't see the same thing today. And that hurts. When I was young I helped older people. Today I have no one to count on.
Sure seems society today is far more selfish than it was when I was younger. Churches back then helped a lot of people. Today it seems more important to take care of those big monstrous buildings they have.
When I was younger, churches helped me with clothing, and other items. My dad did the best he could, but sometimes there wasn't enough.
Life has surely changed, and not for the better.
Are you other older folks agree? Do you see the same things I'm seeing?
