BUCK OWENS The career of Buck Owens rather much paralleled that of George Jones. For a time Buck seemed more popular than George, at least in our house. My folks actually bought Buck Owens records. We had three 45s, and an album. I seem to remember we had a Buck Owens 78. We had only one George Jones 45.
Buck pioneered a sound that came to be known as the Bakersfield Sound. It was his sound, and he lived in Bakersfield at the time.
Buck's sound made you feel happy no matter what he was singing, even a sad song like, "Crying Time." Buck was my very first favorite. The 60s were a turbulent time not only in the nation, but in my personal life too. Listening to Buck always made me feel better. Come along, and listen to what I mean...GONNA HAVE LOVE
